Eye Pain Treatment Q & A
Are you or a family member suffering from eye pain?
Not only can this be extremely irritating but down right painful! Do not let eye pain leave you or your family member suffering through the day or night. At Columbia Clinic Urgent Care & Walk-in Clinic our kind and extensively trained medical team specializes in eye pain treatment. Why might you experience eye pain? What symptoms may you experience with eye pain? What treatment options are available for pain in the eye?
Why might you experience eye pain?
There can be a number of reasons why you or a family member could be experiencing eye pain. It might be a result of allergies, inflammation of the eye lid, a blocked tear duct, or a cluster headache. If there has been an injury to the eye, such as a foreign object entering the eye, blunt trauma, or a burn, this can result in severe pain in your eye. Other causes could be an infection, such as from pink eye, or inflammation of the scleritis (white part of the eye), or uveitis (the middle layer of the eye). In some cases eye pain can actually be the result of an underlying condition known as Glaucoma.
What symptoms may you experience with eye pain?
Eye pain can fall into two different categories. The first category is ocular pain, which is pain experienced on the surface of the eye. The second category is orbital pain, which occurs within the eye. With ocular eye pain symptoms involve redness of the eye, a burning sensation, itching, or a scratching pain. In the case of orbital eye pain the symptoms may feel deeper in the eye such as aching, stabbing, or even a throbbing pain. At Columbia Clinic Urgent Care & Walk-in Clinic our eye pain specialists know just how important your eye health is and how concerning it can be for you or a family member.
What treatment options are available for pain in the eye?
The eye pain treatment that will be right for you or your family member will be based on the cause of the eye pain being experienced. When meeting with a member of our medical team that specializes in eye pain treatment they will want to identify the cause and best treatment options. Our caring doctors and medical staff understand just how sensitive pain in the eye can be. That is why they will work with you or your family member quickly to identify and treat the pain. It may be that there is a need to flush the eye to remove debris that is contributing to your pain, antibiotics might be prescribed to treat an infection in the eye. Your doctor could also suggest using eye drops that are designed to help with pain resulting from dryness or allergies as the best treatment option. In the case of a more serious eye infection your eye specialists may give you corticosteroids. If your physician finds that your eye has been damaged from a foreign object, or a burn, surgery may be the treatment that is recommended.
